morning glories

Ah! Spring is about to breathe heavily down my neck of the woods (yes, i know - i'm not trying to rub it in!) and only last week the strange straggly oak-tree in front of the law faculty - that always looks diseased but is always the first by some weeks to bud - pushed out little electric-green nodes of nascent leaves. And so the season has arrived...
The season, of course, of the seven-month itch, of watching passing couples with green-tinged eyes as well, the season of the sweaty palms... The season also of soft spring showers, and rushing into coffee-shops to steam along with sugary cups of coffee as you try to wake up.
And that is where all the trouble starts...
Because where is there a more perfect crush-object than the coffee-shop waitress? No, I mean really! Allow me to dwell for a moment on their distant-crush perfection. There is the welcoming smile, regardless of circumstances, the idle chit-chat without the usual strained horribleness of small-talk - because no-one expects you to perform. There is the beauty of the perfectly-defined relationship, with beautifully circumscribed roles and mutual expectations, without any differences in expectation. Then, of course, the two most noticed features: 1.) those aprons! which hide and yet suggest... & 2.) the way they bring you stuff, like food and coffee and even sometimes beer!
QED. I rest my point. It is early, and I do not feel quite awake just yet - time for a newspaper, and that first cup of coffee...
