Exams suck. They really do.

I’ve been invigilating recently. Watching whole roomfuls of nervous students for hours on end. Some nervous because they had worked themselves into the ground for the past two years, some nervous because they hadn’t worked at all and some just nervous because everyone else was and it seemed the right thing to do.

Every time I look at their worried faces I just wish I could tell them:

“this exam doesn’t count for that much really, next year you’ll be doing something else, and the thing you’ll remember from this year is not the exam, but the barbeque on your birthday…or the day you travelled on a train to a city where the sun was silver…”

I know wouldn’t believe me though, just as I didn’t believe it when anyone used to tell me the same thing.
