Looping
Time is a funny thing. It doesn’t seem very happy to be running on one big line the way it should. Instead it makes loops as it tries to trick you into thinking two similar events happened next to one another. I leave a city for over 6 months, and when I return time loops around and I feel as though I haven’t been away. When I return to my normal life the loops reverse and the city seems far away in both distance and time. I go without seeing a friend for a few months or more, and a few seconds into meeting her time has done some nifty splicing and created a reality where late summer is followed directly by Christmas. This looping can be rather unpleasant. Bad event is linked to bad event and in the midst of a crisis positive things are lost in an alternate loop. Unreachable almost forgotten. Around and around until a vague memory or a gentle shove sets life running back on the more positive loop. On the whole, desptie the confusion it creates, I find the looping reassuring. Life seems less complicated as a series of loops and I certainly prefer it to a never-ending treadmill.
